The Congresswoman’s support of education revolves around several central goals: providing ample funding for public schools; ensuring equal access to education for every student; expanding support services for education; and ensuring lifetime learning – making early education (pre-school, Head Start) and higher education accessible for everyone.
Congresswoman Lee believes that Congress must maximizing student achievement and closing disparate learning gaps between our young people must be a priority for Congress. To accomplish these goals, investments are needed to reduce class sizes, expand early childhood education and after school programs, and improve professional development for teachers and education. These investments are necessary to prepare our children for career and college readiness.
Additionally Congresswoman Lee believes that the cost of college should not be a barrier to higher education. For millions of students, college affordability is key to accessing higher education. Because of this, Congresswoman Lee is a strong supporter of federal investments in education, including protecting access to higher education through Pell Grants, low student loan rates and student loan forgiveness. She is also a champion of minority serving institutes, including Historically Black Colleges and Universities, which continue to provide quality education opportunities for minority communities.
As a member of the Labor-Health and Human Services-Education (LHHS) Appropriations Subcommittee, Congresswoman Lee will continue to fight for investments at all levels of public education.
As the representative of California's 13th district, Congresswoman Lee is committed to:
- Protecting access to higher education through Pell Grants: A student should never be denied an education because they can't afford it. Congresswoman Lee will continue to fight for funding for Pell Grants which help millions of low- and middle-income families pay for college.
- Protecting funding and access to after school programs: After school programs are of vital importance for the millions of working families who need a safe, enriching environment for their children after the school day ends.
- Increasing funding for Head Start: Every child deserves equal access to a quality education. Head Start is central to ensuring low-income children arrive at kindergarten ready to succeed.
