Congresswoman Lee Celebrates Marriage Equality Decision

Washington, DC – Following the Supreme Court’s decision upholding that love is love, Congresswoman Barbara Lee, a vice chair and founding member of the LGBT Equality Caucus, released this statement:

“Today, the Supreme Court affirmed that love is love and ensured marriage equality for all families.  Now, each person will have the ability to marry and build a life with the person who they love, regardless of where they live.

Tragically, generations of LGBT Americans have been forced to live in the shadows and denied the basic right to marry the person who they love. Today, that changed. Today, our nation moved one step closer to achieving equality for all.

This decision is a long awaited victory for members of the LGBT community and its allies.

While today’s decision is a victory for all families, we still have much work to do to ensure true equality for all, no matter who they are or who they love. We will keep up the fight until true equality is a reality.”
