Congresswoman Lee Welcomes Secretary Castro to the East Bay to Discuss Public-Private Partnerships to Address Housing Crisis

Oakland, CA – Today, Congresswoman Barbara Lee welcomed the Honorable Julian Castro, Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, to the East Bay to participate in a tour of the Lion Creek Crossings housing complex and learn about the programs and resources readily available to its residents.

Following the tour, Congresswoman Lee hosted a roundtable discussion with Secretary Castro, stakeholders from Uber, Google, and Facebook and housing advocates to discuss the need to preserve affordable housing and the potential for partnerships between the public and private sector to address the housing crisis in the district.

“Now more than ever, it is vital that we work together to establish permanent solutions to the housing crisis in the East Bay. I am pleased that Secretary Castro accepted my invitation to come back to the East Bay to meet with housing advocates and leaders in the technology industry to talk about the potential for public-private housing partnerships,” said Congresswoman Lee. “Federal investments are critical to addressing our housing crisis but it also imperative that the private sector supports affordable housing projects that will keep longtime residents in the neighborhoods they call home.”
