Castro Valley

Named after Don Guillermo Castro, a rancher and soldier in the Mexican Army, Castro Valley is the 5th most populous unincorporated area in the state. Approximately 14 square miles, Castro Valley's population is nearly 60,000.  Castro Valley is renowned for its award winning schools, lakes and downtown shopping dotted with mom and pop stores. May is a busy time in Castro Valley, where locals attend the annual Rowell Ranch Rodeo, parade, and chili cook-off.

Castro Valley receives services and is governed by the County of Alameda. Locals enjoy the weekly farmer's market between May-October, in addition to the annual Fall Festival in September.  Castro Valley was moved from the 10th Congressional District boundaries to the 9th after the 2000 census. A brand new 34,000 square foot library will be opening its doors in late 2009 for all to enjoy.
