“I am encouraged that Republicans are holding a committee hearing this morning to bring attention to the struggles of unemployed workers, but I hope they follow up today’s hearing with action.  Another way that my Republican colleagues can support our nation’s long-term unemployed workers would be to work with me and the 48 Democratic co-sponsors of my bill to extend an emergency lifeline of benefits to these workers.

“Yesterday I stood with a number of long-term unemployed workers who are desperate for help and the consistent theme they expressed to me is that they have heard enough talk from Washington – now is the time for action.  I urge every member of this subcommittee, especially my Republican colleagues, to co-sponsor the bill I introduced yesterday and work with me to convince Republican leadership to bring this bill to the House floor for a vote.”
