Congresswoman Barbara Lee Announces $2.63 Million in Affordable Housing Program Awards for 9th Congressional District

Oakland, CA – Rep. Barbara Lee (D-CA) announced today that the Federal Home Loan Bank of San Francisco (FHLBSF) is awarding $2.63 million for seven projects in the 9th Congressional District through its 2003 Affordable Housing Program (AHP). Overall, FHLBSF is giving $43 million in grants for affordable housing units in Arizona, California, Florida, Illinois, New Jersey, and Nevada.

In Berkeley, Picante House of the Ursula Sherman Village received $120,000. Six projects in Oakland received awards: Seven Directions ($240,000), Oak Street Terrace ($155,000), Mandela Gateway Townhouses ($700,000), Foothill Family Apartments ($575,000), East Oakland Community Project Shelter ($600,000) and ACORN Phase-III Palm Court ($240,000).

“With the crisis in affordable housing in the Bay Area and all over this country, I am pleased to see these vital funds going toward projects in the 9th Congressional District and throughout our state and country,” said Lee. “While substantial, we still need to do much more to ensure that housing -- a fundamental human right -- is available for all Americans.”
