Congresswoman Barbara Lee Joins Official Congressional Delegation to Attend President Mandela’s Memorial Services

Washington, D.C.— Congresswoman Barbara Lee (CA-13) will join the official Congressional Delegation to Johannesburg, South Africa to attend memorial services for former President Nelson Mandela on Tuesday, December 10. In Johannesburg, the delegation will be joined by President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama, former President Bill Clinton, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, former President George W. Bush and his wife, Laura, as well as former President Jimmy Carter.

Congresswoman Lee led the effort in the United States Congress in 2008 to remove Mr. Mandela and the African National Congress from the United States Terrorist Watch List in 2008 in time for Mr. Mandela’s 90th birthday, and served as a member of the host committee for Mr. Mandela’s 2000 trip to Oakland, California, as well as served as an official election observer in South Africa during Mr. Mandela’s first election to president.
