Washington, D.C.— Today, Congresswoman Barbara Lee released the following statement to mark Memorial Day, which will be celebrated on Monday, May 27th:

“Every Memorial Day, Americans can pause to not only remember those who have sacrificed their lives for our nation, but to recommit to bettering the lives of our troops and veterans who continue to give heroically to our country.

“As the daughter of a veteran, it is my mission to fight every day in Congress for the health and well being of our veterans, service members, and their families. We need to ensure that when our veterans return, they have good jobs, reliable healthcare, and are well-cared for. And, that includes ending the backlog at the Veteran’s Administration. It is shameful that the young men and women who served our country must wait for months and months while VA processes their claim. We’ve got to end the backlog and ensure that we can care for and protect those who have sacrificed so much for us and our country.”
