Congresswoman Barbara Lee Receives Legacy Award from Black Girls Vote

Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Barbara Lee released the following statement after receiving the Legacy Award from Black Girls Vote, in recognition of her work to empower and uplift black women and girls:

“I am deeply honored to receive the  Legacy Award this evening. Black Girls Vote has played a vital role in engaging women of color in our democracy. This month we’re celebrating the 50th anniversary of Congresswoman Shirley Chisholm’s historic election to Congress as the first African American woman to serve in the US House of Representatives. Like so many women of color in Congress, I am so proud to follow in her footsteps. We carry on her legacy and I know we will all keep fighting so that women of color always have a seat at the table.

“Thank you again to Black Girls Vote for this recognition and for all you do to advance justice and equality in our society.”
