Congresswoman Barbara Lee Rejoins House Leadership Team

Washington, DC – Congresswoman Barbara Lee (CA-13) was renamed Co-Chair of the House Steering and Policy Committee for the 118th Congress by incoming Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries. She will be joined by Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Shultz of Florida and Congressman Dan Kildee of Michigan.

The Steering and Policy Committee assigns members of Congress to their committees for the Congressional session. Congresswoman Lee served as Steering and Policy Co-Chair in the 117thCongress as the highest ranking Black woman in House leadership.

“I’m excited to continue my service in House leadership on the Steering and Policy Committee,” said Rep. Barbara Lee. “Under the new leadership of our esteemed incoming Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries, Democrats will continue putting people over politics. Now more than ever, committee assignments within the Democratic caucus will be crucial to combat the antics of Kevin McCarthy and the Republican party in power. I’m looking forward to working with co-chairs Reps. Wasserman Shultz and Kildee to ensure our caucus is efficiently and strategically represented in our Congressional committees.”

“We are particularly fortunate that Rep. Barbara Lee will serve another term as Co-Chair of the Steering and Policy Committee,” said Incoming Leader Jeffries. “Congresswoman Lee is a powerful voice for the voiceless who has devoted her life to public service, leading our fight against poverty in America and the global HIV/AIDS epidemic in addition to serving as a passionate advocate for peace throughout the world.”
