Congresswoman Barbara Lee Releases Statement on Latest Meeting With President Biden on Build Back Better Agenda
Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Barbara Lee, Member of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, released this statement following her meeting with President Biden and her Progressive Caucus Colleagues on the Build Back Better Agenda:
“President Biden continues to be a good faith partner in the negotiations of his Build Back Better Agenda. As a member of the Progressive Caucus, the House Budget Committee, and as a supporter of the Build Back Better bill, I thank him for his invitation to the White House to continue discussing how we can deliver for the American people.
“We feel confident about the progress being made toward an agreement that will make generational investments in our key priorities, including the care economy, housing, health care, climate action, and a pathway to citizenship for immigrants. The President shares our desire to get these priorities across the finish line quickly and efficiently.
“I stand with Chairwoman Jayapal in our commitment to not leave anyone behind, even if it means implementing these programs for a shorter period of time to bring down the topline price tag. In my district and in districts across the country, issues like housing, climate action, and access to good paying jobs must be urgently addressed. We also discussed the urgent need to address racial inequity, and the President reiterated his commitment to delivering on the provisions that will be immediately felt by communities of color.
“This negotiation process will continue. It’s time for all Democrats to come together and advance the President’s economic agenda that will move America forward and build back bolder. I’m looking forward to working with my colleagues in the House, Senate, and the White House to pass the infrastructure bill and the Build Back Better Act. We must deliver for the people.”
