Congresswoman Lee and Congresswoman Ros-Lehtinen Host HIV Testing to Mark National HIV Testing Day

Washington, DC – In conjunction with Whitman-Walker Health, Congresswoman Lee and Congresswoman Ros-Lehtinen hosted confidential HIV testing for Members of Congress and their staffs.

“While I am proud to again participate in National HIV Testing Day, we should be mindful of the risk of HIV/AIDS year round. It is estimated that out of the 1,200,000 people living with the disease in the United States, almost 200,000 are unaware that they have the disease. By knowing your status, you can take control and help put an end what to what is still a national public health crisis, and I encourage everyone to get tested,” said Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL27), a co-chair of the Congressional HIV/AIDS Caucus.

“I am proud to participate in National HIV Testing Day because HIV/AIDS remains a national and global public health crisis. It’s important that Americans take control of their health, get tested and take action to be healthy,” said Congresswoman Barbara Lee (D-CA13), a co-chair of the Congressional HIV/AIDS Caucus. “Sixteen percent of HIV-positive individuals are unaware of their status meaning more than 800 people in my district could be infected and unaware. I encourage everyone to get tested this Testing Day and get test regularly.”
