Congresswoman Lee Announces $5 Million DOT Grant Award for BART
Oakland, CA – Today, Congresswoman Barbara Lee announced a $5 million grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Transit Administration program for the Bay Area Rapid Transit District (BART).
“I am pleased that BART has been selected to receive this important safety funding,” said Congresswoman Lee. “These funds will provide BART workers with needed security as they fulfill their duties to ensure safe, reliable and environmentally-friendly transit around East Bay and the entire region.”
BART will receive funding to develop and demonstrate innovative safety technologies that will improve track worker safety and help prevent accidents involving trains and track workers. The new technology will alert track workers to approaching trains and will stop the train if workers do not acknowledge the alert.
