Washington, DC – Today, Congresswoman Barbara Lee (D-CA), joined by constituents, celebrated the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and Coretta Scott King, upon the posthumous awarding of the Congressional Gold Medal.

“Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Coretta Scott King and their legacy is a beacon and a challenge for all to live our lives for the betterment of our country and our fellow man,” said Congresswoman Lee. “As a society and nation, we must remain committed to preserving the legacy of equality left to us by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Coretta Scott King and all those that have fought for equal rights before us.”

“At moments like this, I am reminded of the famous Dr. King quote in this situation: ‘The time is always right to do what is right.’ It’s time Congress debates and passes the Voting Rights Act Amendment.”
