Congresswoman Lee to Host Press Bus Tour

Tour will highlight projects that have received Appropriations and ARRA Funding

OAKLAND – Congresswoman Barbara Lee (CA-09) will host a press bus tour on Monday, February 1, 2010 to highlight local agencies and organizations that have received ARRA and/or Appropriations funding.

The tour, which is open to the press and invited guests, will begin at 8:45 a.m. at the Ronald V. Dellums Federal Building, 1301 Clay Street, Oakland. Congresswoman Lee will be joined on the tour by various elected officials and institutional and community leaders. The tour will make scheduled stops in Oakland, Castro Valley, Berkeley and Emeryville.

The Bus Tour Press Conference is scheduled for Monday, February 1, 2010 at 9:15 a.m. at the Oakland Museum of California, 1000 Oak Street, Oakland (Entrance at 10th and Fallon streets). Congresswoman Lee will be joined at the press conference by Honorable Ronald V. Dellums, Mayor of Oakland, Lori Fogarty, Executive Director of the Oakland Museum of California, Chancellor Elihu Harris of the Peralta Community College District, Kabir Hypolite, Director of the Alameda County Office of AIDS, and George Lozano, Executive Director of Covenant House California.

As a member of the Appropriations Committee, Congresswoman Lee worked to secure $18.1 million in fiscal year 2010 Appropriations funding for various institutions and agencies throughout the Ninth Congressional District. Lee, who serves as chair of the Congressional Black Caucus, also worked to direct over $600 million in American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funds to communities, organizations and institutions throughout her District.

The tour will be conducted on a zero-emissions hydrogen fuel bus provided by AC Transit.  Three hydrogen fuel buses were purchased with $7.4 million in federal funding that Congresswoman Lee worked to secure.
