Washington, D.C.— Congresswoman Barbara Lee released the following statement today on President Obama's nomination of CBC Member and former CBC Chair Rep. Mel Watt as Director of the Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA):
“I am thrilled that President Obama has nominated my dear friend and colleague, Congressman Mel Watt to direct the Federal Housing Finance Agency. Mel’s leadership on the House Financial Services and Judiciary Committees makes him the perfect choice for this critical position.
“I know that Mel’s expertise and proven track record will help families who are struggling to keep their homes, and make certain that our country stays on the road to recovery. He has visited my Congressional district several times and understands very clearly the economic and housing issues in California, as well as all across the country.
“Over the years working with Mel, I have seen the highest levels of integrity and intellect, as well as the commitment to ensuring that the American Dream is attainable for everyone. I applaud President Obama for this appointment and congratulate Congressman Mel Watt as he embarks on this new chapter in his life.”
