CBC Chair Marcia L. Fudge Applauds Announcement of Shirley Chisholm Stamp
Congressional Black Caucus Chair Marcia L. Fudge (OH-11) released the following statement on the United States Postal Service’s announcement that Congresswoman Shirley Chisholm will be the 2014 inductee to the Black Heritage stamp series.
“I am very excited that Shirley Chisholm, one of my personal heroes, will be recognized in the United States Postal Services’ Black Heritage stamp series among other African American pioneers in American history. Ms. Chisholm was a trailblazer who shattered glass ceilings and broke racial barriers in America, paving the way for African Americans and women to serve as leaders in their communities and in the United States Congress. This is a tremendous honor and one that is well-deserved.
“I also commend and thank Congresswoman Barbara Lee (CA-13) for her work in Congress advocating for a commemorative stamp to be issued in celebration of Ms. Chisholm’s great legacy.”
