ICYMI: Congresswoman Lee Holds Press Conference with East Bay Elected Officials and Community Leaders
On Friday, June 3rd, Congresswoman Barbara Lee held a press conference at the Veterans Court Seawall at Bay Farm Island, Alameda featuring East Bay elected representatives and community leaders from across California’s 13th district.
The Congresswoman was joined by Alameda Mayor Marilyn Ezzy Ashcraft; Emeryville Mayor John Bauters; Berkeley Mayor Jesse Arreguin; Scott Means, City of Oakland; Joe Hawkins, Oakland LGBTQ Center; David Lewis, Executive Director of Save the Bay; Amy Hutzel with Coastal Conservancy, and Erika Simpson-Akpawu with West Oakland Health Council.
This press conference marked the last stop on the Congresswoman’s tour of East Bay community projects receiving federal funding in this year’s budget. In addition to seawall project, which is receiving $1.5 million, projects receiving funding include the Youth ALIVE! violence prevention program in Oakland ($500,000); the Oakland Mental Health Resilience Project ($1.23 million); and environmental clean-up for a development of 158 units of affordable housing in Emeryville ($2 million). The bill also includes funds for organizations including the Oakland Symphony, Oakland LGBTQ Community Center, and Berkeley’s African American Holistic Resource Center.
