Washington, D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Barbara Lee (CA-09) extended her support for our veterans, service members and their families on recognition of Veteran’s Day.

"As the daughter of a veteran, I believe we have a moral responsibility to keep our promise to the people who have served our nation. American veterans, service members and their families deserve our full support and I will continue to fight for increased and improved services for the people who have fought for us,” said Congresswoman Lee.

Earlier this year, Congresswoman Barbara Lee joined a majority of her colleagues in supporting the Economic Recovery and Reinvestment Act. This legislation identifies and funds some of the most pressing infrastructure needs of the military and VA including renovating and making more energy-efficient Department of Defense facilities and improving the hospitals for our troops.  Funding these infrastructure projects will create tens of thousands of new jobs, along with taking another step in keeping our promises to our troops and veterans.  Other key provisions include giving businesses tax credits for hiring unemployed veterans, providing disabled veterans a payment of $250, and $555 million for assistance to military homeowners, including wounded warriors and surviving spouses, who have been impacted by the housing crisis.

Additionally, Congresswoman Barbara Lee hosted a veteran’s information forum highlighting veterans’ benefits and the new Post-9/11 GI Bill in Berkeley, California last month.

“In light of the recent tragedy at Fort Hood and to honor all of our military troops, veterans and their families around the world who continue to proudly serve our country, let us further dedicate ourselves to providing them with the necessary support and resources that they deserve,” said Congresswoman Lee.
