Barbara Lee Announces Over $6.5 Million in Transportation Funds for Oakland Airport Taxiway Rehabilitation

Oakland – Congresswoman Barbara Lee (D-Oakland) announced today that the Port of Oakland will receive $ 6,547,045in U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) funding to rehabilitate taxiways at the Oakland International Airport. The funding will be used for necessary maintenance of the airport’s W and U taxiways, which help the airport serve more than 14 million travelers annually.

“I am pleased that the Port of Oakland has been selected to receive funding that will help enhance services currently provided by the Oakland International Airport,” said Congresswoman Lee.  “This award is a reminder that our economic recovery is dependent on continued investment in our transportation and aviation infrastructure.”

Port of Oakland Executive Director Omar Benjamin added, “We are excited to receive word that Oakland International Airport will receive $6.5 million for our taxiway rehabilitation project.  As always, Congresswoman Barbara Lee has worked tirelessly to help secure essential funding that enables us to continue to improve and modernize our airport."
