Washington D.C. – Congresswoman Barbara Lee (CA-09) announced today that the U.S. Department of Transportation will award two grants totaling $10.8 Million to fund AC Transit’s farebox system replacement project and improving BART’s regional real-time transit information at intermodal BART stations.

AC Transit will be awarded $7.5 million through the Department of Transportation’s 2012 State of Good Repair Program to fund farebox system replacement.

Additionally, BART will be awarded $3.1 million through the U. S. Department of Transportation’s 2012 Bus Livability Program to fund regional real-time transit information at intermodal BART stations. The project will provide up to 17 additional real time bus and rail departure and arrival information at key intermodal BART stations.

“I am pleased that both AC Transit and BART have been awarded these important grants which will make critical transportation infrastructure improvements”, said Rep. Lee. “These grants million are a clear example of the success of federal transportation grant programs and why we must preserve and protect these grants from efforts to end the funding.”
