Washington, DC – Today, Congresswoman Barbara Lee applauded President Obama’s announcement of the 2009 Presidential Medal of Freedom Honorees. This year’s medal recipients include Nancy Goodman Brinker, Pedro José Greer, Jr., Stephen Hawking, Jack Kemp, Sen. Edward Kennedy, Billie Jean King, Rev. Joseph Lowery, Joe Medicine Crow – High Bird, Harvey Milk, Sandra Day O’Connor, Sidney Poitier, Chita Rivera, Mary Robinson, Janet Davison Rowley, Desmond Tutu and Muhammad Yunus.
“This year’s Presidential Medal of Freedom recipients have all made a tremendous impact on our world,” said Congresswoman Lee. “From entertainment to politics to humanitarianism, they represent the best in our society.
