Barbara Lee Comments on Allocation of Transportation Funding from Economic Recovery Package

Washington, DC – Today, Congresswoman Barbara Lee released this statement regarding funds allocated to the regional Metropolitan Transportation Commission from the recently passed Economic Recovery Package.
“I appreciate the work of the board of the Metropolitan Transportation Commission in moving swiftly to allocate funding from the economic recovery package to meet our regional transportation needs. However I remain very concerned about the amount of funding available to support our public transit agencies, like AC Transit, in providing vital bus service to our communities.
“With the State’s decision to eliminate funding for transit operations, we must find new and alternative sources of funding for AC transit and other public transit agencies. I am committed to working together with local leaders in the community, our State government, and my colleagues in Congress to ensure that we have a fair and equitable transportation policy which includes dedicated federal funding for transit operations.”
