Barbara Lee Congratulates Bay Area Environmental Honorees

(Washington, DC) – Congresswoman Barbara Lee (D-Oakland) congratulated the 13 Bay Area organizations and individuals, including five from her Congressional District, who were honored today by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for their efforts to protect and preserve the environment in 2005 during the EPA’s eighth annual Environmental Awards Ceremony in San Francisco today.

“I congratulate the EPA’s Environmental Awards recipients for their hard work and innovation, and I thank them because their work benefits all of us,” said Lee. “I am proud that our district is home to so many leaders in protecting our environment, and we must do all we can to support their continued leadership.”

The honorees from the ninth Congressional District were:

West Oakland Environmental Indicators Project Group Co-Chairs: Margaret Gordon & Brian Beveridge, Oakland, CA, for the group’s work to improve local air quality.

East Bay Municipal Utility District, Oakland, CA, for their work on food waste recovery and waste diversion.

UC Berkeley: The Green Room, Berkeley, CA, for their creative program to encourage students to adapt green practices in the areas of reuse and recycling, energy usage, water usage, and purchasing and consumption.

James Burgett, Alameda County Computer Resource Center, Berkeley, CA, for his nonprofit’s innovative efforts in electronics recycling.

Cassandra Cyphers, Clif Bar Inc., Berkeley, for the company’s outstanding environmental stewardship.
