Washington, D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Barbara Lee (CA-09) extended her support for our veterans, service members and their families in recognition of Veteran’s Day.

"As the daughter of a veteran, I understand the tremendous sacrifices our men and women in uniform and their families make on a daily basis. They honorably carry out their duties for their county. That is why I believe we have a moral responsibility to keep our promise to the people who have served our nation. American veterans, service members and their families deserve our full support and I will continue to fight for increased and improved services for the people who have fought for us.”

Over the last year, President Obama and the Democratic Congress have enacted a number of landmark pieces of legislation to assist our veterans, including the Caregivers and Veterans Omnibus Health Services Act, and the Veterans' Benefits Act of 2010. These important pieces of legislation will expand and improve physical and mental health, compensation, education and employment benefits, assist family caregivers, prevent homelessness, and ensure that the health needs of women veterans are fully met.  The House of Representatives has also proposed to increase funding for Veteran's programs this year by $11.2 billion, including an additional $3.7 billion for the Veteran's Health Administration.

"As we move to complete our legislative business for the year and begin the 112th Congress I look forward to working with my colleagues to ensure that the needs of our Veteran's are taken care of."
