Barbara Lee Named to House Appropriations Committee

(Washington, DC) – Today, Congresswoman Barbara Lee (D-Oakland) was named to the House Appropriations Committee, which controls the federal purse strings and is widely viewed as one of the most powerful committees in Congress.

"I thank Speaker-elect Pelosi and my colleagues for the opportunity to serve on this important committee. I look forward to working with Chairman Obey and my colleagues on the committee to help set the nation's spending priorities and ensure our spending truly reflects our nation's values.

"I also look forward to working with my fellow Californians on the committee to ensure that our state is getting the federal resources it deserves.

"This committee assignment puts me in a better position than ever to continue to fight for and serve the people of California's 9th Congressional District."

Lee will be only one of five California Democrats and three Democrats from Northern California on the Appropriations Committee. Subcommittee positions will be decided in January.
