(Washington, DC) – Congresswoman Barbara Lee (CA-9) issued the following statement in response to the disastrous earthquake in Southwest China:
“On behalf of the people in my district in California, I want to extend my condolences to the Chinese people and especially to those families who have lost loved ones due to the severe earthquake.
“It is with great sadness that I have watched the news reports of thousands of people who have been displaced or who have died. I am especially pained by the children who are still trapped in collapsed schools and buildings. It is my hope and prayer that more survivors will be found and that more families will be reunited.
“The international community stands ready to assist in response to this disaster and our thoughts and prayers will remain with the people of China as they work through this terrible tragedy.”
