Congresswoman Barbara Lee and U.S. Department of Education Secretary Arne Duncan to Hold Roundtable with Regional Superintendents, Principals and Teachers
Oakland – Congresswoman Barbara Lee (CA-09) and U.S. Department of Education Secretary Arne Duncan will hold a roundtable discussion with regional superintendents, principals and teachers on Friday, September 10, 2010 from 9:30 a.m. to 10:45 p.m. at Merritt Community College, 125000 Campus Drive, Oakland CA.
Congresswoman Lee and Secretary Duncan will engage educators in a discussion about the current successes and challenges they face and how initiatives advanced by the U.S. Department of Education can assist in improving student achievement. Merritt President Robert Adams will provide an overview of the Maximum Achievement Program (MAP), with students sharing their experiences on how the program has helped them meet their academic goals. Congresswoman Lee and Secretary Duncan will be made available to the press at the conclusion of the roundtable discussion at 10:45 a.m.
Congresswoman Lee and Secretary Duncan will then visit Longfellow Middle School, 1500 Derby Street, Berkeley, for a brief tour and a meeting with students and faculty. The visit will be open to photographers. Photographers are welcomed to join Congresswoman Lee and Secretary Duncan during the tour at Longfellow Middle School.
