Washington D.C. – Congresswoman Barbara Lee (CA-09) released the following statement today regarding President Barack Obama’s nomination of San Francisco Federal Reserve Bank President Dr. Janet Yellen as Chair of the Federal Reserve:

“I commend President Obama for his nomination of Dr. Janet Yellen for Vice Chair of the Federal Reserve,” said Congresswoman Lee. “Over the years and throughout her career as an economist in the San Francisco Bay Area, Dr. Yellen has exhibited a great understanding of the key issues needed to stabilize our nation’s economy and help steer it out of the worst recession since the 1930s.

“While the nation’s economy continues to show signs of recovery, there are many issues that still need to be confronted – most notably the disproportionally high unemployment rate in underserved communities. I am confident that as Vice Chair of the Federal Reserve, Dr. Yellen will support policies that will promote economic equality for all, and I look forward to working with her once she is confirmed by the Senate.”
