Congresswoman Barbara Lee Calls Trump’s Fourth of July Military Parade ‘Outrageous and Dangerous’

Washington D.C. - In response to the President-sanctioned Fourth of July “Salute to America” celebration held on the National Mall today, U.S. Congresswoman Barbara Lee (CA-13) issued the following statement:

“As the daughter of a military veteran who fought in two wars, I proudly honor the service men and women of our military armed forces. However, I find the militarization of the Fourth of July by this President to be outrageous and dangerous.

“It is ironic that in his speech the President gave his best try at an elementary school level lesson on American history, yet he fails to understand and respect the basics of our system of government and the essential checks and balances of the executive, legislative, and judicial branches.

“The sacrifice and bravery of the men and women in the U.S. armed forces are to be honored and applauded never to be used for political purposes to boost sagging poll numbers, as the President did today.”
