Congresswoman Barbara Lee Celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month
WASHINGTON – Today, Congresswoman Barbara Lee (CA-12) released the following statement in observance of Hispanic Heritage Month, which takes place every year from September 15 to October 15.
“It is with gratitude that I honor Hispanic Heritage Month. Growing up in El Paso, Texas, I saw firsthand that the Hispanic community is incredibly vibrant and vital to our country. Today, I have the privilege of serving a vibrant and dynamic Hispanic community of Latinos who live in my 12th Congressional District of California. This month, let us celebrate Hispanic Heritage and commemorate the immeasurable contributions of the of the diverse Hispanic community.
“Our nation and our district are stronger because of our diversity. As we honor the Hispanic community, we must also acknowledge that they are disproportionately impacted by poverty, health care inequities, and other social injustices. We must work to uplift Hispanic communities in California and across our country.
“As a member of the Tri-Caucus, which comprises the Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC), the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC), and the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus (CAPAC), I am a proud and vocal advocate for the Hispanic community. Happy Hispanic Heritage Month!”
