Congresswoman Barbara Lee Commemorates Hispanic Heritage Month
WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, following the start of Hispanic Heritage Month, Congresswoman Barbara Lee released the following statement:
“Every year, our nation comes together to recognize the lasting contributions of the diverse Hispanic community during Hispanic Heritage Month.
“Growing up in El Paso, Texas, I learned from and gained a deep respect for the Latinx community and their heritage.
“Today, I have the honor of representing California’s beautiful 13th district, one of the most diverse congressional districts in the country. I see the critical role that Hispanic Americans play in building and enriching our community every day – as doctors and educators, from Fruitvale to Albany.
“Our strength comes from our diversity. Rest assured that I’ll keep fighting against the Trump Administration’s xenophobic and anti-immigrant agenda and speak out against the racist hatred impacting Latinx communities around the country.
“Latinx leaders have led the fight to protect the rights of the most vulnerable among us – immigrants, laborers, women and children. As Dolores Huerta once said, “Every moment is an organizing opportunity…every minute a chance to change the world.” She and so many others inspire me to fight for justice for all.
“I hope all members of the Latinx community have a wonderful Hispanic American Heritage Month.”
