Congresswoman Barbara Lee Concludes Productive CODEL to East Asia
Washington, DC – Congresswoman Barbara Lee returned this week from a congressional delegation to South Korea and Japan. The CODEL focused on critical issues facing U.S. and international security in the region, including nuclear threats posed by North Korea in the Korean Peninsula.
“Last week, I met with national security leaders in South Korea and Japan and received firsthand briefings about U.S. policy in the Korean Peninsula. My time in the region reinforced my concerns about the potential consequences of rising tensions and militarization.
“I encourage the President to provide Congress with a comprehensive strategy for deterring North Korea that puts diplomacy and non-military strategies at the forefront and that moves us closer to the goal of a nuclear-free world.”
Congresswoman Barbara Lee will address the continuing threat of nuclear war in a day-long conference at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology on May 6th, 2017. The Congresswoman will be joined by former U.S. Secretary of Energy, Dr. Ernest Moniz.
