Congresswoman Barbara Lee Introduces Legislation Commemorating 75th Anniversary of the United Nations
Washington, D.C. - Today, on the 75th anniversary of the signing of the United Nations’ Charter, Congresswoman Barbara Lee introduced H. Res. 1024, legislation recognizing the 75th anniversary of the UN’s establishment.
“The United Nations is vital to our global community and essential to realizing a peaceful and prosperous shared future,” said Congresswoman Barbara Lee, who is serving her fourth term as a congressional representative to the UN General Assembly. “Since it was established in 1945, the United Nations has played a critical role in preventing conflicts, maintaining peace, and safeguarding human rights around the world.
“Our country and global community face unprecedented challenges. We might not always agree with other nations of the world, but it is crucial to have a venue where we can hear from other countries and be heard ourselves. That is why the United States pushed to build the United Nations – as a tool for improving mutual understanding of our differences and finding peaceful, diplomatic ways to solve them.
“It’s more critical than ever that the United States is fully engaged in the United Nations to encourage mutual understanding and sustained engagement around the globe as we work together to ensure a more just, peaceful and secure world.
