Congresswoman Barbara Lee Issues Statement on Anniversary of 9/11 Attacks
WASHINGTON – Today, Congresswoman Barbara Lee (CA-12) released the following statement recognizing the 23rd anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks:
“Twenty-three years ago today, the world witnessed a horrific attack on our country. Today, we remember, honor, and mourn the thousands of lives lost on September 11, 2001. As a nation, we continue to extend our deepest sympathies to their families, friends, and loved ones. May they forever remain in our thoughts.
“We salute the selfless first responders, firefighters, police officers, and others who risked their own safety, and in many cases sacrificed their lives, to help others. They are owed an immeasurable debt, but we must attempt to repay their sacrifice by ensuring that they have access to quality health care, monitoring, and compensation.
“Let us mark this tragic day yet again with reflection. I encourage all to join the National Day of Service and Remembrance to give back to our communities. May the legacy of those lost that day inspire us to face the many challenges in front of us. As we deal with crises around the globe, let us continue our work toward a more peaceful world.”
