Congresswoman Barbara Lee Marks Memorial Day

Oakland, C.A. – Congresswoman Barbara Lee released the following statement marking Memorial Day:

“Every year, Memorial Day is a time for our nation to convey our gratitude to the brave service members who gave their lives in heroic service protecting and defending our country. As the daughter of a veteran, I am deeply grateful to the members of our military who have made the ultimate sacrifice for this nation. My prayers are with their families and loved ones today.

“President John Kennedy said, ‘As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them.’

“Let us honor their sacrifice with action by ensuring their loved ones have access to the resources – housing, health care and jobs – that they deserve. Let us show our gratitude by bettering the lives of our troops and ensuring our veterans are supported as they transition back into civilian life.

“On Memorial Day, Congress should thank our fallen heroes by stepping up our commitment to service members, veterans, and military families.”
