Congresswoman Barbara Lee: President Trump’s Budget Proposal Is A Disgrace
Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Barbara Lee released the following statement on the release of President Trump’s FY19 budget:
“At its heart, the federal budget is a moral document. It puts on paper the morals and values of our nation. It also spells out in very clear terms the priorities of the federal government. After passing the greatest tax scam in modern history to line the pockets of the 1%, President Trump revealed today how he plans to pay for it: by stealing from working families. The president’s budget proposal is a disgrace. It slashes Medicaid, Medicare, nutrition assistance and vital programs that Americans rely on to make ends meet.
“The American people deserve and truly desire a government that works on their behalf. This Robin-Hood-in-reverse agenda does just the opposite. It funnels more taxpayer dollars to the Pentagon, while ripping lifesaving health care from millions by repealing the Affordable Care Act, taking an axe to basic living programs and rigging the system even further for the rich. President Trump’s heartless agenda tears at the moral fabric of this nation. I reject this budget and stand with the American people in demanding a budget that helps American families get ahead and stay ahead.”
