Congresswoman Barbara Lee Receives Patricia Roberts Harris Award from Delta Sigma Theta

Washington, DC – During Delta Sigma Theta’s annual Delta Days in the Nation’s Capital conference, Congresswoman Barbara Lee (D-CA) today received the Patricia Roberts Harris Award for Excellence in Government Service from Delta Sigma Theta, the largest black national sorority.

The award is named after Patricia Roberts Harris, who capped off a distinguished government career by serving in the Carter Administration both as the Secretary of Health and Human Services and Secretary of Housing and Urban Development.

“It is truly an honor to receive an award named after Patricia Roberts Harris,” said Lee. “Patricia demonstrated that black women are qualified and committed to protect basic human rights and shape the political landscape of this country. I thank Delta Sigma Theta for recognizing that my legislative efforts are part of this tradition.”

Previous recipients of the Patricia Roberts Harris Award include former Congresswoman Barbara Jordan, Congresswoman Maxine Waters, and Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes-Norton.
