Congresswoman Barbara Lee Recognizes Veterans Day
Oakland, CA — Congresswoman Barbara Lee (CA-13) today released the following statement commemorating Veterans Day.
“On this Veterans Day, we honor the brave servicemembers who have risked and sacrificed their lives for our nation.
“My father, Lieutenant Colonel Garvin Tutt, served in both World War II and the Korean War. He served his country despite the discrimination and racism he faced at home and in the military as an African American. I work each day in Congress honor his legacy and to ensure our promises to veterans and military families are kept.
“As Congress continues to debate transformational legislation to improve housing, the care economy, and family leave, we must recommit to ensuring veterans have access to all of those things and more. We must bolster resources for VA medical services, invest in programs for women veterans, and invest in mental health, suicide and homeless prevention services, and fund medical research to improve the lives of veterans suffering from chronic illness following their service.
“There is no better way to show our gratitude than to properly invest in the lives and wellbeing of our servicemembers. To our veterans and military families, thank you for your service and your sacrifices.”
