Congresswoman Barbara Lee Rejoins House Budget Committee
Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Lee released the following statement on her reappointment to the House Budget Committee:
“I am honored to again serve on the House Budget Committee in the 117th Congress. Our budget is a moral document that lays out our national priorities and must be viewed through the lens of racial justice and equality. From my seat on the Committee, I will continue to work with my colleagues to craft a budget that strengthens our national security by reducing wasteful defense spending, rebuilds our nation’s safety net, reduces income inequality and puts our nation on the path toward a more just and sustainable future.
“As we face a global pandemic, a budget with the right priorities is more important than ever in order to lift millions out of poverty and reinvest in the needs of our communities. Those priorities include creating millions of new jobs by rebuilding and modernizing our nation’s infrastructure, improving education and opportunities for every child, responding to the climate emergency and building a sustainable green economy future.
“I look forward to working with my colleagues to ensure that our country’s budget is fair, just, and works for all.”
Congresswoman Lee also will serve again on the House Appropriations Committee, on the Labor, Health, and Human Services Subcommittee, the Agriculture and Food and Drug Administration Subcommittee, and as the first African American Chair of the House Appropriations State and Foreign Operations Subcommittee. Congresswoman Lee also serves as the only African American woman in leadership in her role on the Steering and Policy Committee.
