Congresswoman Barbara Lee Releases Statement on Prime Minister Netanyahu’s Joint Address to Congress
Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Barbara Lee (CA-12), Ranking Member of the House Appropriations subcommittee on State and Foreign Operations, today released the following statement announcing her plans to not attend Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s joint address to Congress:
“I will not be attending Prime Minister Netanyahu’s joint address to Congress. In my opinion, this visit is not a good faith effort to address the deeply concerning conflict continuing to transpire in the region. It is a thinly veiled GOP political event disguised as a joint address. Prime Minister Netanyahu’s policies have obstructed the path to peace and lasting security for Israel. The humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza has taken countless lives, including the lives of women and children, and destroyed Palestinian homes and communities. Prime Minister Netanyahu’s deeply divisive policies put the peace and security of both Israelis and Palestinians at risk. I will not condone this by being present at the address.”
