Congresswoman Barbara Lee Statement Honoring Veterans Day
Oakland, CA — Congresswoman Barbara Lee (CA-12) today released the following statement commemorating Veterans Day:
“Today, on Veterans Day, let us recognize the courageous service members and their families who have sacrificed so much on behalf of our nation.
“I am the proud daughter of a former service member, Lt. Col. Garvin Tutt. My father fought in two wars, even while facing discrimination as an African American at home and in the military.
“I work each day in Congress to honor his legacy and to ensure that our promises to veterans and military families are kept.
“Our veterans deserve more than just a ‘thank you.’ They need our action. In Congress, I have continued to fight for investment in the well-being of our brave service members. Since Congress passed the PACT Act, we have seen lower health care costs for thousands of brave heroes across the country.
“As a member of the House Appropriations Committee, I’ve fought and will continue to fight to provide our veterans with the quality wages, housing, and health care they deserve.
“The East Bay is home to over 20,000 veterans. There is no better way to show our gratitude than to properly invest in the lives and wellbeing of our servicemembers.
“To our veterans and military families, thank you for your service and your sacrifices.”
