“I am proud to commemorate International Women’s Day, and acknowledge the progress and achievements of women around the globe, as well as ongoing efforts to ensure a future of opportunity and prosperity for all.

“Unfortunately, on this 100th occasion of International Women’s Day, the Republican House leadership is in the midst of a war on women that would drastically cut assistance to meet the basic human needs and educational aspirations of low-income women and their families, eliminate funding for family planning programs, and end United States support for the United Nations Population Fund and its mission to promote equal opportunities and save lives.

“It is evident that women around the world are more significant than ever in addressing some of the world’s greatest challenges, ranging from global poverty and hunger to the urgent threat of climate change.

"This Congress, I plan to re-introduce legislation recognizing the impact of climate change on women and other vulnerable populations as well as their unique capacity and knowledge to promote strategies and provide for adaptation activities in response to the climate crisis.

“As a longtime champion of women’s rights and empowerment, I will continue to fight to safeguard reproductive rights and access to vital family planning services, promote women’s economic security and political participation, condemn violence against women, and eliminate all forms of gender discrimination domestically and abroad.”
