Congresswoman Barbara Lee Statement on Senate Confirmation of Shalanda Young as OMB Director
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Barbara Lee, senior member of the House Appropriations Committee and Chairwoman of the Subcommittee on State and Foreign Operations, released the following statement congratulating Deputy Director of the White House Office of Management and Budget (OMB) Shalanda Young for being officially confirmed as Director. Congresswoman Lee worked closely with Director Young during her time as Staff Director for the House Appropriations Committee.
“In my time working with Shalanda Young on the Appropriations committee, she was one of the most talented, strategic, and well-respected staff members on Capitol Hill.
“I have no doubt that she will continue her legislative mastery as the first Black woman director of OMB. It makes me very proud that she’s finally cleared this nomination process, and I can’t wait to continue working with her in her new role.”

Congresswoman Lee is a member of the House Appropriations Committee and Chair of the Subcommittee on State and Foreign Operations. She serves as Co-Chair of the Steering & Policy Committee, former Chair of the Congressional Black Caucus, Chair Emeritus of the Progressive Caucus, Co-Chair of the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus Health Task Force, and Co-Chair of the Pro-Choice Caucus. She also serves as Chair of the Majority Leader’s Task Force on Poverty and Opportunity. As a member of the House Democratic Leadership, she is the highest ranking Black woman in the U.S. Congress.
