Congresswoman Barbara Lee Strongly Opposes Putting Taxpayers on the Hook for Wall Street Gambling in So-Called CROmnibus
Washington, DC – Today, Congresswoman Barbara Lee spoke in opposition to the rule that would govern the so-called CROmnibus:
“This bill [H.R. 83] funds many things that I support including Ebola funding and a critical $5.67 billion for the President's plan for AIDS relief, PEPFAR.
However, it includes provisions that I cannot support.
I cannot support provisions that would roll back the Dodd-Frank Wall Street reform bill and put taxpayers back on the hook for Wall Street gambling.
Provisions within this bill would also eviscerate campaign finance laws and allow ultra-wealthy donors to increase national party donations ten-fold.
Additionally, it includes $73.7 billion for the Overseas Contingency Operations [OCO] fund, which is quite frankly a slush fund and appropriates an additional $3.4 billion to fund an unauthorized war against ISIS in Syria and Iraq. More than three months after this war began, Congress has yet to have the Constitutionally-mandated debate and vote on an authorization for the use of military force [AUMF].
I urge a no vote on the rule and a no vote on the bill.”
