Oakland – Congresswoman Barbara Lee (D-Oakland) will be presented with the Phil Burton Badge of Courage Award during the San Francisco Sierra Club’s Annual David Brower Celebration at the Intercontinental Grand Ballroom in San Francisco on Friday evening.

Congresswoman Lee is being honored as a champion of environmental justice and for fighting against efforts to weaken the Clean Air Act, the Clean Water Act, the Endangered Species Act and other environmental laws. Congresswoman Lee is also being honored for her ongoing efforts to increase investments in the development and use of renewable energy sources such as wind, geothermal and solar energy.

“I am truly honored to receive this award,” Congresswoman Lee said. “The work that is being done by the Sierra Club in the Bay Area gives me constant encouragement in my own work as a legislator to curb greenhouse gas emissions, demand clean air quality for all communities, and increase investments in the development and use of renewable energy sources in my District and around the nation.”
