Congresswoman Barbara Lee to Host CDC HIV/AIDS Forum in Bay Area

(Oakland, CA) – Congresswoman Barbara Lee (CA-9) will host a forum, in collaboration with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), to address the HIV/AIDS crisis in the African-American community on May 9 at the West Oakland Senior Center at 10am.

Dr. Julie Gerberding, director of the CDC, will discuss ongoing efforts by the agency to address the local HIV/AIDS crisis. The Bay Area Black Nurses Association, Cal-Pep, the Healthy Oakland Preventative Care Pathways and experts from local HIV/AIDS prevention or advocacy organizations will participate in the panel discussion. Participants will receive free on-site health screenings and HIV/AIDS testing.

This event is free and open to the public and the press.
