Congresswoman Barbara Lee to Receive Healing the Planet Award from Physicians for Social Responsibility

To be Honored at Los Angeles Ceremony on Sunday Night

Oakland, CA – Congresswoman Barbara Lee (D-CA) will be awarded the Physicians for Social Responsibility’s (PSR) Los Angeles Chapter’s 2003 Healing the Planet Award on Sunday, October 24 in Los Angeles. PSR, which is honoring Lee for “her service to the nation in the U.S. House of Representatives,” is dedicated to creating a world free of nuclear weapons, global environmental pollution, and gun violence.

“Representative Lee is a hero,” said Felix Aguilar, M.D., Los Angeles president of the Nobel Peace Prize-winning organization. “In the days following the September 11th tragedy, Ms. Lee was the lone courageous voice in Congress pleading for a measured multilateral approach to US security problems in Asia. Given the mess in Afghanistan and Iraq, history has found that Representative Lee was absolutely right.”

“I am honored to receive this award from Physicians for Social Responsibility,” said Lee. “PSR has always been a strong advocate for ensuring that we live in a world free of danger and violence. I am happy to be associated with them and their efforts to bring about meaningful change in the world.”
