Congresswoman Barbara Lee to Serve as Vice Chair of the Congressional LGBT Equality Caucus in 114th Congress

Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Barbara Lee released this statement regarding serving as a Vice Chair of the Congressional LGBT Equality Caucus for the 114th Congress.

“I am honored to again serve as a Vice Chair of the Congressional LGBT Equality Caucus. The Equality Caucus is an important voice for members and allies of the LGBT community, at home and abroad,” said Congresswoman Lee. “As we continue to fight discrimination and work to ensure equality for all,  the Equality Caucus continues to be a vital resource to advocate for the needs of the LGBT community and their families.”

BACKGROUND:

Congresswoman Lee served as a Vice Chair during the 113th Congress and is a founding Member of the Congressional LGBT Equality Caucus.

The Equality Caucus serves as a resource for Members of Congress, their staff, and the public on LGBT issues at the federal level. The Caucus works toward the extension of equal rights, the repeal of discriminatory laws, the elimination of hate-motivated violence, and the improved health and well-being for all regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity and expression.

Congresswoman Lee is a member of the Appropriations and Budget Committees, the Steering and Policy Committee, is a Senior Democratic Whip, former chair of the Congressional Black Caucus and co-chair of the Progressive Caucus. She serves as chair of the Whip’s Task Force on Poverty and Opportunity.
