Congresswoman Barbara Lee Votes to Move Forward with Build Back Better Agenda
Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Barbara Lee (CA-13) released the following statement after voting to move forward with the budget reconciliation process, opening the door to the passage of the American Jobs and Families Plans:
“Today was a crucial step forward in delivering relief for our constituents. It’s clear that investing in our neglected human and physical infrastructure is long overdue. We know the American people are hurting. But House Democrats know that what is contained in the Build Back Better reconciliation package will address this pain.
“House Democrats have set the stage for providing child care for women and men pushed out of the work force. We are committed to providing higher education for newly created jobs, and squarely focused on investing in addressing the climate crisis. For the first time in decades, we are poised to deliver real, tangible improvements in the lives of families across the country. That is our moral imperative as Democrats, and with control of the governing majority, that should never be overlooked.
“We have a responsibility to the American people to deliver on all our promises to build back better and bolder. This rings especially true for communities of color that have been disproportionately impacted by this pandemic and continue to be disenfranchised and marginalized due to systemic racism and economic inequality. I look forward to voting to pass legislation that addresses this nation’s physical and human needs as we continue our fight to crush this virus. The American people deserve nothing less.”
